Brief Biography

Alexandra Branzan Albu was born in Bucharest, Romania. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering (1992) and a Ph.D. degree (2000) in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania. In 2001, she joined the Computer Vision and Systems Laboratory at Laval University (Quebec, Canada) as a postdoctoral researcher and became an Assistant Professor at Laval in 2003. She moved at the University of Victoria in 2005.
She is currently a Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Her expertise is in image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition. Her research interests span document image analysis, computer vision-based environmental monitoring, and medical image analysis.  She teaches courses in engineering design, computer vision, and medical image processing. She is a Senior IEEE Member and has served as first Vice-President for the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR) from 2018-2021.
